Fading Blossoms
Last year, I tried to make the same pedestal pieces, but they crumbled in their drying phases. I made this project a redemption project, I learned from my mistakes and focused on keeping everything within a reasonable time scale for drying. I made pedestal serving dishes accompanied by three bowls. They are all glazed the same way with the main identifier being the pink, faded, freestyle blossoms that were hand drawn onto the pieces. The blossoms are glazed using a pink translucent glaze. I made them slightly faded to represent how my career at Trinity as a student is coming to an end. The fading blossoms help emphasize that everything doesn’t last forever, but their memory will always fade into the structure of your life. I made the pedestal piece by first throwing large, shallow, bowl-like structures. Then, I measured the rim of the piece to get the size for my lid, so that it fits on top of my piece. After that, I found the center of the bottom of the structure and threw a cylinder with a hole all the way to the bottom to get my pedestal. From there I would give the pedestal height and shape by pulling and then pushing in to get curves on the stand. This project is a great finale to my ceramics career here at Trinity. As you examine my work, please take a moment to reflect on the memories that are etched into you and how they have made you into the person you are today.
VMFA Combo Project
At the beginning of our semester in Studio Workshop Ceramics, our class took a trip to our local fine arts museum. While there we were tasked with finding projects that we would later combine and make our own. I was inspired by two pieces in the museum while I was looking at all of the art there. The two pieces were a painting and a sculpture, the painting was "Mars Orange and Green" by Arthur Dove and the Sculpture was "An Art Nouveau Collaboration" by Charles Pillivuyt Porcelain Manufactory and Eugene Feuillátre.
Cereal Bowl
In the gallery below, my cereal bowl is displayed. This bowl was made in mind with my favorite cereal, Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I glazed the bowl in the same colors as the letters on the box of cereal. The bowl came out pretty well and I love how the colors mash up in some spots like the chaotic commercials that come with the cereal.
Teapot
My teapot for the fall semester was a small test for my final project. This teapot was small in size, but was very sturdy and still managed to hold a good amount of water because of the wide base. The teapot is glazed with pink blotches that are supposed to symbolize cherry tree blossoms.
